Type of activity: Communicative task
Time: 10-15 min.
Resources: 1 chart per student (pdf below)
Person BINGO is a quick activity to get students talking to each other, forming questions, and practicing descriptive adjectives. Make sure that in a previous lesson or homework students have gone over the definitions of all the vocab words used and have learned the conjugations of “to be” verb (SER).
Everyone will have a sheet of paper with different adjectives on it in a chart. There are three different variations, feel free to create more different types of charts if you want more variety. The task is for students to go around the room and ask people if the adjective describes them. If it does, they can write that student’s name in the square with that adjective. The goal is to get four squares in a row with different names.
As an example, draw the table on the board and write TÍMIDO in one of the squares. Ask a few different students “¿eres tímido?” until one of them says yes, then write their name in the square.
Make sure to emphasize that students need four squares IN A ROW to win, and that they cannot have a student’s name on the chart twice. It should be filled with all different names. When someone gets a row, they should yell “BINGO!”
To conclude the activity, have students return to their seats and ask the class a few questions about who they wrote down. For example, you can ask “quién es romántico?” and have a student respond with a full sentence: “Harry es muy romántico.” Depending on their level, you can ask some followup questions like: “Oh, Harry es muy romántico. ¿Tiene novia?”.
